Set up Tinyclock in about five minutes

Tinyclock is in development, so these steps describe the planned setup. Screens and wording may change before launch.

Before you start

You will need your phone, your child's phone, and a few minutes. Have your child with you if you can: the setup explains each step in plain language, and it works best when the two of you do it together.

Steps

1. Create your parent account. Install Tinyclock on your phone, choose "I'm a parent" and sign up with email, Apple or Google. You will be asked to confirm that you are the child's parent or guardian.
2. Add your child. Enter your child's name and age. Tinyclock shows a QR code and a 6-digit code.
3. Pair the child's phone. On your child's phone, install Tinyclock, choose "This is my child's phone" and scan the QR code or type the 6-digit code.
4. Grant permissions. Tinyclock walks you through the permissions it needs to apply limits on the child's device. Each step explains why it is needed.
5. Choose a first routine. Pick a daily limit and a bedtime. Most families start gently and adjust after a week.

What your child sees

After pairing, your child sees a short explanation of what you can and cannot see, a countdown of time left, and Timo the mascot. If location is switched on later, your child sees a clear indicator.

Tips for the first week

• Keep the first limit generous. You can tighten it once the routine is familiar.
• Leave phone, messages and maps always allowed.
• Check the weekly report together on day seven.

Troubleshooting

The code does not work. Codes expire after a few minutes. Generate a new one from the child's profile.

Limits are not applied. Check that all permissions were granted on the child's phone, and that Tinyclock is allowed to run in the background.
