How requests for more time work
How your child asks for more time with a ready reason, a voice note or a 3-second video, and how you approve, decline or change the settings.
Last updated
When time runs out, children can ask for more. Tinyclock is designed to make that request calm and easy for both of you. This article describes the planned behaviour, which may change before launch.
What your child sees
On Android, the time-is-up screen is drawn by Tinyclock and shows Timo with a friendly message and an Ask for more time button. On iPhone, the block screen is provided by the system and shows a simple static version with a button. When your child taps it, they receive a notification that opens Tinyclock on a full-screen request page.
How your child asks
Depending on your settings, your child can:
- Choose a ready reason, such as "Finishing a lesson" or "Almost done with this level"
- Record a voice note
- Record a 3-second video
Your settings
In the parent app, go to Settings, then Requests and choose one of three modes:
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Off | Your child can send a simple request without a recording |
| Optional | Your child can add a voice note or video if they want to |
| Required | A short recording is needed before the request is sent |
How you respond
You get a push notification. Open Requests to see the reason or recording and tap one of:
- +10 minutes
- +30 minutes
- +60 minutes
- Not now, with an optional friendly reply
Privacy of recordings
Camera and microphone access is only used when your child chooses to record, and only after your permission. Recordings are encrypted, are not used for advertising or analytics, and are planned to be deleted automatically after a short period. You can delete them at any time. Read the privacy policy for the current rules.
Tips
- Agree on the rules in advance, so a request is a conversation and not a fight.
- Answer quickly and kindly. Children learn that asking works better than arguing.
- Use Optional if your child feels shy about video.
Frequently asked questions
Does my child have to record a video?
Only if you set requests to Required. Off, Optional and Required are all available, and a ready reason or a voice note can be offered as alternatives.
How long are request videos kept?
Videos are encrypted and planned to be deleted automatically after a short period, such as 7 days. See the privacy policy for current details.
